The tenement house no. 20 is situated at the corner of south-western part of frontage of the market square and Garncarska (formerly Żydowska) Street. The view on the Pszczyna market square and the Castle of Pszczyna Princes from its front windows rates among the most beautiful. The house is a historic building, entered in the register of historic buildings of the former Katowice province at no. 467/65.

First notes of the house date back as early as 1745, when it was described as a corner, two-storeyed house with a courtyard.
The first owner of the building was a merchant Franz Herodes and then his family: Maria Herodes, surname at birth Schubert, Ferdynand Herodes, Maria Herodes surname at birth Schmerduch.
The rule of Herodes lasted till the year 1904 , that is over one and a half century.
In this period the building was twice damaged by fires and then rebuilt, adopting a new form of a two-storey building with a side annexe.
This was the period of prosperity for the building, the next century – twentieth, just benefited from previous investments.

In the year 2003 this, through lack of renovation and repairs very neglected, tenement house was bought by the company Visa Bell Ltd , which carried out a very expensive general overhaul of the building, bringing back its previous splendour. All the historic construction and finish elements were protected and renovated under full conservatorial supervision. Great attention was devoted to reconstruction of architectural details creating the unique atmosphere of the old tenemet houses.
In the basement of front rooms original brick vaults with telescopes were reconstructed, in the vestibule old brick floors and earlier walled up passages and window openings were uncovered and restored.
Original, over 200-year-old entablature of ceilings and, originating from this house, XVIIIth century wrought iron door was displayed. It also proved possible to preserve and restore fragments of old, XVIIIth century cellars, where now, like in the old days, wine is stored. The renovation and modernisation of the tenement house was completed in December 2006.

At present an elegant Hotel Zamkowy*** and a restaurant „Stara Piekarnia” are situated in the building. The administrator is company ROY Józef Przybyła.
